Its length varies from 8 cm to 13.5 cm. It is characterised by its rounded muzzle, short tail, slender build and relatively short hind legs. Its long, shaggy coat is orange-brown in colour. Its faeces are oval and green in colour. It can be found anywhere, provided it does not lack a herbaceous body. This species is in fact predominantly herbivorous.
