Characterised by its stocky build and short tail, it has a short brownish-grey coat on top and a yellowish-grey coat on the bottom. It measures between 8.5 cm and 12 cm in length. The faeces are greenish-black and sub-cylindrical in shape. It is mainly found near agricultural plots and has good fossorial abilities. It has a short, rounded snout and a herbivorous and granivorous diet.
