MEDITERRANEAN RECLUSE SPIDER
Loxosceles rufescens
It is a rather small spider, with a body of no more than 9 mm and a maximum of 4-5 cm if the legs are counted; the females have a slightly larger body than the males, which have slightly longer legs. It is inconspicuous in appearance, of a fairly uniform yellowish-brown colour, except for a spot on the forearm which vaguely resembles the outline of a violin, with the "handle" extending towards the abdomen. The species lives in the wild under stones, on tree trunks, in cracks and crevices in walls, even outdoors. However, it is often found inside our houses.
