The colour varies from red-brown for adults to grey for younger specimens. The body, as long as the tail, is about 9 cm long. It prefers agro-forestry habitats but also occupies parks and hedges. It has a pointed snout and a varied diet, mainly granivorous. Its droppings can be confused with those of the house mouse.
